UNIT 3 THE BOLD AND THE BASHFUL

Exercise I- Write some paragraphs using the words of the vocabulary.

People who suffer from the shyness syndrome are reticent and aloof. In other words, they experience a phobia toward society. Shyness is caused by the low self-esteem some people have and the lack of confidence on theirselves. Also, shy people feel afraid of making mistakes and others laugh at them. In some cases, people with a handicap feel inferior and ashamed because of their physical limitations. Moreover, people with chronic shyness go through many adverse situations and lose big amounts of opportunities.

On the other hand, extroverted people are sociable, outgoing,  and dynamic. They are the center of attention wherever they go, love sharing with others, and express their ideas with determination. When extroverted people find their kindred soul(s), they feel extremely satisfied because they have similar likes, so they can understand each other better.

There are many misattributions about extroverted people. One of them is that they are always happy and have a perfect life. They are also human beings and they are not exempt of having problems.

Something important to be taken in consideration is the fact that being shy or extroverted has the same merit. People must deal with others with respect and tolerance. Being codescending is not good because others must be treated as we would like to.

Modal Verbs. Degrees of certainty Grammar Explanation We use modals of certainty to make deductions or assumptions, that is, to make judgments and opinions about a situation in the present. These modal verbs are: must, can't/couldn't, should/ought to, may, might and could. We use must when we have reasons to be sure of something. We use can't/couldn't when we think something is impossible. We use should/ ought to where we think something is quite sure and have a big possibility of happening. Might, may and could are used in situations where the speaker is not sure of the deduction or assumption he makes due to lack of information or because it is not evident.
