Unit 1 Internet and other addictions

When we talk about addiction the first thing we think is drugs or alcohol addiction but addiction does not only refer to dependence on those subtances. A person can develope an addiction to certain activities, such as gambling, as well as cell phone and social media use, food or eating, Internet, porn, sex, shopping, Video games etc. The  compulsiveness of using or engaging in those activities  is what's called an addiction.

They can get to affect other
areas of your life like, for instance, your work or your school  or your relationships with other people. Among the treatments for addiction there are support groups and rehabilitation programs that can be vital to recovery from an addiction.
